So here it is Friday ...
And that was then ... the weekend...
Saturday was a national holiday but Little Miss Short Straw here had to work. Ah sure it was only 5 hours and was over before I realised.
After that we visited one of Daves friend's bar which is about the length and width of Mam's kitchen! But was still fun. Some damn tasty beer.
Sunday morning was Japanese lesson and conveyor sushi and then I hopped on the Shinkansen(bullet train) outta Nagoya for Kobe.
Went on my own, was a bit stir crazy in this town and Dave was in a stay at home mood so got to prove to myself that I can still do this crap on my own.
There's not tons to see in Kobe, especially after the massive earthquake in 95, but its always been a fairly international city and I really liked the atmosphere. Hung out down by the port at a massive resteraunt mall, went up in a cable car and watched the sun set over the bay, wandered through the Chinatown and drank decent german beer.

The next day Dave joined me to see Himeji castle. Supposedly if you only see one Japanese castle, you're supposed to see this one. And you can see why.
Most Japanese castles were destroyed during WW2 and were rebuilt in the 60's and 70's in concrete. There's a handful left in their original bajillion year old state. Inuyama is one, and so is Himeji.

Himeji is huge, especially compared to Inuyama and is nicknamed the White Crane Castle because ... well its white. It was cool to walk around ... and you'll notice most of the photos are looking up at the cool roofs (rooves? nah)

After the castle we wandered around a local garden before heading back to Kobe for the evening. We had some chips as a pre-dinner snack. Damn they were tasty! They came in this cone thing and on each table there was either a block with a hole in it, or a hole in the table that you could stand it up in! They were just like the Cosy Chips ... mmm.

For dinner we went to a Brazilian BBQ, and after a little confusion we realised that the actual Buffet was pretty much for decoration because the idea is to fill up on the meat. So the waiters walk around with huge skewers of different meat, lamb, pork, steak, beef, chicken, sausage and cut it straight onto your plate .... Mmmm we ate half a farm between us!
Then we hopped back on the shinkansen and came home for ... yup normal life again!
Funny how most of that post is talking about the food I ate!! Hee hee.
More Kobe pictures?
